Rain Man was begans with Charlie Babbit, a tough young man was eager to `got rich quick'. His business was in trouble and he was needed money badly. He received news of his father's death. `Nothing I did was ever good enough for him,' said Charlie bitterly to his girlfriend, Susanna. Then Charlie learned that his wealthy father has left him only his 1949 Buick roadmaster and his roses; he has left all his money to `someone very important to me'. Understandably, Charlie was angry; he felts the money belonged to him. He discovered that his father has left his money to Charlie's older brother - a brother he never knew he had. This brother, called Raymond, was `autistic'. He couldnot had relationships with other people ........ he couldn't `felt'. He needed a very secure environment and was living in an institution Charlie `kidnaped' his brother, although he would not admit to his girlfriend that this was what he had done. He told her, `I was keeping him until I got my money'. He and his brother drove across America to Los Angeles; he plans to live with his brother there. As they were drove across the country, Charlie got to knew Raymond, who had some extraordinary skills. He could count 200 toothpicks in a second, and ccould memorize a page of telephone numbers in a minute. But more importantly, Charlie realized that Raymond was the `Rain Man'. As a child, Charlie had a `secret friend' whom he called the `Rain Man' - Charlie did not know it, but this `secret friend' was Raymond.  |
